Sentinel Flock Project

Seven Hills Tallarook is participating in the Department of Primary Industries Victoria Sentinel Flock Program.   The project aims to collect and collate up to date information on the causes and prevalence of death and disease in sheep and goat flocks and particularly losses associated with kidding.   The project will run for approximately 3 years.

DPI Victoria will document the animal health, husbandry and management procedures used and monitor the incidence of disease and livestock deaths.   In addition, drench resistance, trace element monitoring and annual pre joining buck assessment will be undertaken.

The data collected will identify the cause and prevalence of disease and mortality in goats, the causes of losses in kids pre and post weaning, the cause of losses due to abortion and stillbirth and the impact these losses have on production systems including financial impacts.
